One time I was a jalapeño burn-victim. An jalapeño burn-victim? I guess we’ll never know. Moving on, this came about from mincing around one dozen jalapeños. When I noticed my hands were on fire, my partner ran to the store to grab milk so I could soak my hands. Still burning. He ran back to the store to grab rubbing alcohol because we read it helped. Nothing. He ran back to the store to grab vaseline. Hands still engulfed in flames. The only thing that gave me a bit relief was plunging my hands into a bowl of ice water. However, as soon as the ice started to melt, the burning would flare up again. I would start to fall asleep with my hands in the bowl, the ice would melt, and the pain would jolt me awake. We replenished the bowl with ice and repeated this process for a long and torturous TEN HOURS. Continue reading The Ultimate Meat Chili (Low Carb)
Some news! Well, by now this isn’t really news, but we quit our jobs and packed up our apartment in Toronto late November to move as far as we possibly could across the country. I gave Toronto a chance for three years but I was never crazy about that city. Luckily, I have an incredibly supportive partner that would make such a big move with me. We escaped Ontario winter just in the knick of time to mild and rainy-wintered Victoria, BC.
I was excited to hear from Helena over at Low Carb Lovelies when I found out she wanted to feature me as a guest poster on her very impressive and dedicated blog. We were lucky enough to find each other in the world of WordPress and she was looking for a soup to warm her bones. Just as a chill has been settling in where she lives in Australia, it has been heating up here in Toronto. Normally this is where I put a pause on all things soup for the summer, yet I excitedly accepted the offer, as I had loads of chicken stock in my freezer to use up before summer truly sets in here. Continue reading Purple Cabbage Roll Soup
I don’t have much to say about this soup. It speaks for itself, really. Continue reading Smoked Cheddar and Chorizo Beer Soup (Low Carb)
One of my closest pals came to hang out with me during the holiday this year. We’ve made it somewhat of a tradition to buy enough alcohol to last us days, watch terrible horror movies, and make nontraditional holiday meals together.
I got up really early this Saturday morning to start on this soup. This was because I hadn’t done my stock ahead of time and I was wanting to use up some chicken bones and vegetables I had hanging around. Continue reading White Wine Pork and Turnip Stew (Low Carb)
Last weekend my kitchen was graced with the presence of Dan, one of my closest friends I’ve lived apart from for quite some time. A fellow lover of soups and generally just appreciative of good and creative food, we decided it would be a shame not to cook something up together. Continue reading The BBT: Bacon Basil Tomato Soup (Low Carb)
I’m not entirely convinced that winter is through yet. The weather has flip-flopped so many times that I don’t hold a lot of hope. Next week calls for wet snow and I am definitely not feeling that. Continue reading Chipotle and Chorizo Tortilla Soup
I bought an adorable cookbook from a restaurant I visited last month in Florida called Aunt Catfish’s. It was cheap, a great souvenir, and I’m looking to expand my cookbook collection. Continue reading Yellow Split Pea Soup with Smoked Ham
This post is a day late. To make up for it, I’m hitting you with a double-feature. Continue reading Double-Feature: Kimchi Jjigae (김치 찌개) & Quinoa Kimchi Bokkeum (김치 볶음)
